What About Bob?Why isn't Robert Novak going to jail?
Posted Thursday, June 30, 2005, at 1:17 PM ET
Robert Novak has again declined to talk about his involvement in the investigation of reporters Judith Miller and Matthew Cooper, who now face jail time for refusing to disclose how they learned the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame. In February, Daniel Engber investigated why Novak, the journalist who initially outed Plame, hadn't been subpoenaed in the case and hasn't been threatened with jail. "Novak might have sung like a canary," Engber writes. "It's also possible that Novak received a subpoena but pleaded the Fifth, fearing that he himself would be the target of an indictment."
